the dutch flag is red, white and blue - just like the US flag.

The Royal family is the House of Orange. And they use orange as their color, since then it's become a sort of national color. Oranje (orange) is also the nickname of the national football team. Therefore the supporters are also dressed in orange. Look for carrots, orange tulips, orange wigs etc. among them.
