I was once told, bya woman at a bar, that I looked a lot like Tom Cruise. I walked away from her (I don't like Tom Cruise, his looks, acting, politics or world views, or the fakery of scientology). I don't think it is good to say things like that. if you think someone is good looking, just say that.

I never mis-understood that gal in the bar. she was, in a round about way telling me that she thought I was good looking. However those that use this type of 'compliment', fail to accept that not everyone has the same opinion of beauty. therefor telling one person that they look like someone that the other emight think is ugly is telling that person that you think they are ugly (you think I look like HIM/HER?! THAT SUCKS!!). You seem to expect those receiving the 'compliment' to understand and yet you fail to understand the flip side of the same coin!
