I'm a culinary student and I have to spot bleach my uniforms. It takes me a long time, I noticed if I leave the bleach on the clothes it get very hot. Why is it that bleach turns hot?

Bleach, which can act as an oxidizer, is oxidizing the organic solvent in your varnish remover. Oxidation reactions are exothermic, meaning they release heat.

it's an exothermic reaction of some sort. maybe there is something in the material that reacts wtih the bleach to produce this.

I once dumped two bottles of laundry detergent together to get rid of an almost empty gallon plastic bottle and came back later to find the one I had filled was getting hot and foaming. There may be traces of something in your uniforms that is reacting with the bleach in much the same way.

It's not really temperature hot, that's a chemical burn. Try not to soak your uniform all the way through, because it's bad for your skin.

It's a chemical reaction to the fabric softner or detergent that you clean your clothes with.

never turns hot on me, but if you spray febreez on your leg while your wearing jeans it gets hot and then cold...odd!
