My American cousins in both Florida and Texas cannot walk outside (adults aswell) as it is so dangerous(they are not in a poor area). Why is there so many paedophiles and serial killers in America?

Everyone will have individual stories so you cannot generalise, but I have worked in New York for two years and find it to be the safest place on the planet. I walk everywhere and at all times of the day and night.

In contrast I grew up in a predominantly first generation Irish catholic community in the UK and have a strong opinion that your average irishman could start a fight in an empty room!

I would hazard a guess that most cities in most parts of the world have areas where it is inadvisable to go at certain times unless you know the turf.

You are probably right about serial killers as I cant think of many except the lunatics from BOTH sides of the border who spent 30 years blowing people up in the North, but be careful about the paedophiles thing because there are plenty of scandals and allegations around the church.

Well, to be fair, some people do have a point. For a while there the odds of being blown up in Ireland were similar to present-day Iraq....

However, as an American, I would like to say that I feel perfectly safe. I walk at night, leave my car unlocked, leave my office unlocked.

As for why there are "so many" pedophiles and murderers.... look at the population differences. America is a very diverse and large nation. With that comes different and large problems than a smaller, more homogenous nation such as Ireland encounters.

Well I can say that NO WHERE is a 100% safe.

However, I'm sorry your family is afraid to walk outside. Everywhere has pedophiles and serial killers, it's America's freedom of the press that allows us to publish the truth about people and the crimes being committed.

I don't think any single country is more dangerous than another with those factors, it's about how exposed the truth is. America tries not to deny our sins, but expose them and face them and try to solve them. Unfortunately, these crimes are not new, and are ancient, just finanally we are starting to admit and fix them.

P.S. I am 35% Irish on my father's side. And I think Ireland is a beautiful place in pictures, that most likely pales in her actual beauty. I have never met a native born Irish person.

American media tries to make Americans afraid. We are naturally afraid because Ireland doesn't have half as many enemies as America. As to serial killers and pedophiles, that is probably because America has so many big cities, especially in Texas and Florida, there are all sorts of weird people. And America's nice little suburbs seem a good place for a criminal to hide out and remain unsuspected. We have a lot, lot, lot of gangs too.

Could you exaggerate just a little more?! First of all, there is not a place in the world that is ONE HUNDRED percent safe. And America is not as dangerous as you make it sound. There aren't that many serial killers in America. As to pedophiles, we have so many because our justice system is very lenient toward them. And, trust me, we're all able to leave our houses and walk around outside - unless your cousins are under house arrest. Geez, you non-Americans are a severe bunch - at least toward us.

They must be lying, or they live in a terrible area I can walk around my entire neighborhood without anything going wrong. They have to be living in a bad area or something because that is such a lie that America is dangerous well I do agree some places are bad.

Have a great day!

I think if you do some real research you will find Ireland has a lot of problems also. The USA is just more likely to air its dirty laundry. (I live in a town where there are no problems and don't even have to worry if I forget to lock the doors and am gone a couple of weeks.)

It's a larger country, theres not more there it's just that once convicted anyone can go online and see what type of criminal is living near them.
The theres availability of guns and the ease of buying drugs.
I could go on about the society differences like kids leaving school with no education and the poor welfare system but I wont lol

I think America has so many different races, so many different cultures, and is so much bigger than Ireland. People here think they are due the American Dream (sometimes for nothing) and it makes them mad if they can't have it. Also, we have more drugs here probably than is used in Ireland. Sometimes I think America is being ruined.
