pay no attention to the haters....1st thing is scan over your local papers sports pages, theres always schools looking for coaches
(head coaches, assistant coaches,etc.etc..) and announce them in the sports pages somewhere... if that doesn't work try contacting a local youth football league(pee wee or pop warner)
they are always looking for coaches--- if your good enough there word will get around,( alot of players parents know coaches, get it?) if none of the above work, try getting out to some schools and watching practices as an observer, talk to the head coach or
assistants maybe they can help you with someone they know, if all else fails, keep trying until you get the chance.. if you want to coach bad enough, just like if you want something bad enough
do what u got to do, to make it happen

GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!

- finish your 4 year degree.
- if you plan to start at Jr. High or HS, you will also need to be able to teach. To move up the ranks, you must have success - success breeds success.
- Once in a program, take time to learn; you should always be learning.
- fire up your network of people you know and tell them of your interest. Start with your old coachs and teammates - you may be able to pick up an internship or more from there.
- Attend coaching clinics and coaching functions. Make friends in the coaching community - stay active and be involved. follow up with coachs you meet and helped you with thanks you notes. Remember, your interactions in the coachign community will get you remembered (either for good or for bad so make them good) but if you just go to functions and don't meet and greet, you are not gonna get noticed at all.
- know football. Not just the systems you learned, learn them all. Don't stop at todays systems but study the old school stuff as well.
- learn all the positions and the fundamental skills required to play them. Don't expect to be a recievers coach just because you played receiver.
- expect to know much more than just football. You need to know things like strength and speed training, program building, and project management.

Good Luck!

If you have to ask you probably have no business being a coach...complete your education. Most schools require you to have a coaching endorsement usually along with a Bachelors Degree in education. No one starts out coaching in the big time. You need to pay your dues and get some experience under your belt before anyone is even going to consider you. You sound more suited to coach a little league team.

First, you need to become CPR and First Aid certified. As far as I know, all districts require this of their coaches.

Second, consider taking a coaching class (many colleges provide this). It is not required in all districts, but it is in some, and it definitely looks good on your resume. Some districts (like the one I'm in now) offer this to their coaches.

Then, look for high school coaching jobs first. If there aren't any openings in your area, inquire about becoming an assisstant coach. Assisstants do not always get paid, but it will help get you experience and exposure. School districts will look to hire someone within the school system first, so if you can tie yourself to the district in anyway (substitute teach or get your teaching credential, be a para (assisstant that works with special needs kids)) that would help get your foot in the door.

Once you get one job, you can work your way up from there.
