I know that you can learn the basics, but I mean if you can learn to make really really good artwork. I know some people who make amazing drawings and it just comes to them, while other people try it out and dosent come out as good. It just seems like some people are naturally born with the talent to draw.

Learning to draw realistically (what you see) is a skill that can be learned by anyone with normal hand-eye coordination, if you put in the time and effort. It's actually more about learning to see. That may sound funny, but it's true. You have to train yourself to see in much different way than you are used to doing. There is an excellent book called "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain". If you do what it says in that book, I mean really give it your best effort, you will amazed at what you can draw.

Once you have the skill to draw what you see, you can then move on to develop your own unique style. That is where it helps to have more "natural talent". But in the end it's mostly practice and dedication that will get you results.

Happy drawing!

I believe anyone can learn the basics, but natural talent is something you are born with. If you'll notice, many who are exceptional at drawing start to "doodle" at a young age and progress. Of course, art classes will help either way, if you're a natural or just want to learn.
Also, since it's possible that natural talent has much practice, because people draw simply for the enjoyment and not in a time frame. So they practice much more than someone else may.
I have two family members that are exceptional at drawing..They have never studied, it's simply something they can do.
I have taken classes and am still only fair (and that's pushing it) at drawing.

Nope...anyone can learn it! It's not so much in the drawing...as in the seeing! A great resource is the book "Drawing on the right side of the brain" by Betty Edwards. Also, "The Creative License" by Danny Gregory. Check out his website at www.dannygregory.com Don't let the idea that you have to be born with the talent stop you from the joy of creating! Go for it! Practice, practice, practice!

It seems to me like the answer is a little bit of both. It most definitely appears that some people ARE born with the ability to draw, but people who learn the fundamentals and practice also can excel in drawing.

A lot of people are born with the ability to draw (and others with different talents). I do think that these talents can be learned, as well, though.

If someone has the desire to draw they can...with or without natural ability. They just learn how to: tap into their imagination, how to look at things and really see them, some skills, and away they go! The book "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain" is a fun place to start.

yes there are ppl that are born with talent and the skill to draw. drawing is interpeting what you see and the expression it conveys, you can start with drawing a stick figure and with practice can draw a life like person. But it is how you draw that person that makes the artist stand out from everyone else, i'll give you an example, Picasso a great artist he could probably draw ppl very well but he used abstract forms which was different and made him stand out from the rest.

We are all born with different talents. The ability to draw is a natural talent, not acquired. We can acquire the skills to hone this talent, but the talent must be present already.

Anyone can be taught the basics as well as attention to detail, however what most people miss is that you can have too much detail. Basically learn where to stop and when to keep going.

If you A.D.D. like myself, when you get to that point where you just cant focus TAKE A BREAK.

This is what makes a difference in the end results.

I think it's natural talent. Talent that needs to be honed though because if someone has talent but never nurtures it they won't be any good.

I think that it is possible for people to learn to draw well but they won't create the masterpieces that naturally talented people can make so well.
