It's cheap and it works. Purchase some 20 Mule Team Borax laundry soap, pick up a cheapo ketchup squeeze bottle at a dollar store, put the dry Borax in the ketchup bottle, apply along base boards, kitchen cabinet bases any where you see the ants, leave it lay for a few days until you no longer see any signs of the ants, they carry it back to the nest and it kills them. Then just vacuum up the remaining borax, and use the rest of the box to do your laundry, this is about a five dollar fix and I have used it for years

It usually only takes one ant first - they follow a trail that is left behind that other ants will follow. You are not going to be able to stop just one ant from coming into your home. However, you can get a can of ant spray and spray around the edges of the inside of your home - the basement if you have one, around window sills, inside your garage, places like that. If it is a real problem, try something a little stronger and spray around the perimeter of your home outside. The chemicals in the spray will disrupt the scent trail that the ants follow.

Make up a mixture of 50% borax and 50% icing sugar.Put the dry mix in swallow containers, (plastic container lids work well) and place the containers in areas where you see ants.
The ants carry the mix back to their nest and feed it to the queen. When she dies it is good-bye ants.
Don't leave the containers where your pets can get it.

believe it or not, chalk discourages ants from entering your home. Simply draw chalk lines around the areas you don't want em to go, and they'll avoid it.
