Equipment needed -
1. One Rock. Any material rock will do - Stone, Mica, Copper, Iron Ore or anything
2. One long band or many small bands: Any kind of band will do like Hair Band, Band Aid or anything
Now wrap all these bands around Rock and you have your own Rock Band :) and believe me it is unique Rock Band in world.
If do not want to have unique band then proceed as others have suggested.

i'm in a band so i hope i can help!! ok first you need to find musicians that play the core instruments. this includes drums, bass, guitar & vocals. a keyboard wouldn't hurt either. then you need to decide on where you're going to practice. it has to be a place w/good acoustics (no echoing, etc.). work on putting together a repetoire of about 10 songs, which is about a 1/2 hour show. that way, when you start looking around for gigs, you'll have something to present! as far as equipment, this is by far the hardest. i'm not really an expert in this area (the guys in my band are in charge of this lol), but you'll basically need 2 speakers, a mixer (VERY IMPORTANT!), wires for the instruments to plug into the mixer, instruments (obviously!), any pedals for the guitar/bass, converters (this is mostly for the keyboard. it's the thing that goes from the outlet into the keyboard so it can turn on), microphones & obviously electricity. later you can move onto getting monitors & lights & stuff. you'll also need a truck or a van to move around the stuff & a place to store them. it's hard work, but if you have a passion for music, i'd say TOTALLY GO FOR IT! it's a lot of fun & a GREAT experience!

Post flyer ads at music stores around your area and the news paper. List what style of music and the type of musician that your need is. I would hold auditions. Then as you would hold these auditions ask questions and check their attitudes out. Their attitudes can make or break a band plus make you look bad. With good attitudes and professionalism would a plus in the bands favor. As for as equiptment goes; figure out what your need is and budget. Then shop around at your local music store and on line like musicians friend and read the ratings on the equiptment that your looking for. Good luck!!

you could find people who have experience playing an instrument you need in your band and hold auditions. then if you need more money you could hold a fundraiser. then ask around to see if anyone will hire your band. the instruments you will definatly need is a guitar(acoustic and electric if possible), an amplifier for the electric guitar, a set of drums, a microphone. you may want a keyboard/synthesizer. if you can't afford that, do what i said above, hold a fundraiser, like a carwash.

don't limit yourself to your community. You want ot find talent dont settle for whats available. if your good searchf or equal talent dont settle for the kid who ones a guitar but cant hold a note and switch chords. Also dont just select the kid who has drums lots of kids have drums and are terrible they just beat whatever. But most importantly make sure your band mates like the same music you do dave matthews and metallica dont go good together.

Your best bet would be to put up flyer's stating what you are doing and need. Most musicians will have their own instruments. Biggest things you will need is a van to transport the equipment and a place where you can practice.
Items needed:
Mics, cords, amps, mixing board, distortion pedals, just to name a few items. The list can be endless.

Create flyers and post them around town. Go to local concerts and hangouts and spread the word. Take out an ad in the paper

hang up a sign on the community or school bulletin board. That should do the trick. Or try open mike night if you live in a city large enough to have such a thing.

Ask around! If you know people who can play certain instruments well, get them together! I've done it before! You also need some one either to write or arrange the music for you.
