San Diego, California. I have lived there off and on for over 30 years. The average temperature year round is 70 degrees Fahrenheit or 22 degrees Celsius. The opportunities for outdoor activities and recreation were exceptional. From my home it was only 20 minutes to the beach, 60 minutes to Big Bear mountains and Lake Arrowhead and 90 minutes to the desert. Camping, snow skiing, surfing, water skiing, hiking, fishing, etc. were available at different times of the year. Plus, the size of the crowds and traffic volume were insignificant compared to LA. But like all of California the price of housing was a concern.

San Diego - I visited there for a convention last year and it was the best city I've been to yet. There are gorgeous beaches and sunsets. The weather was perfect - around 75F. Every picture I took could be used as a postcard. The people were all very nice and helpful. Plus there was so much to do, we couldn't fit it in during the three days we were there.

Saint Augustine, FL. It has lots of history (Spanish, English, French etc.) It has an old fort on the beautiful bay. It's near the ocean. Has lots of pretty scenery, a great college (Flagler), lots of interesting shops and some great food (Spanish, Fresh Seafood, South American). It's a great place to just walk around and relax.
There are people there who dress up in costumes and reenact stuff like Drake's Raid. The Fountain of Youth is there, the Old Jail and lots of other touristy but fun things to do and see.
They also have haunted tours which are a lot of fun.

Las Vegas Nevada -- its hot, its NOT humid, it has cool architecture, it is so outlandishly overdone, it has great entertainment, great dining, it has great outdoor activities very accessible, its fun, it is very clean, and generally speaking it is pretty safe.
Brooklyn (heck all of NYC), New York -- it is hot and humid in the summer cold in winter, it is dirty because people litter too much and there are always piles of garbage bags on the sidewalk on trash day (and when I say piles think four feet high), there is too much traffic, it takes forever to get anywhere, idiots park on the street at 3am with their car stereos so loud you think you are in an earthquake.... and still I love it, it must be the energy, the vibrancy, the ethnic diversity, and all the cultural celebrations. It is easy to get lost, but it is just as easy to be found.
San Diego California -- Ocean, cleanliness, and a military base with hot young men. Seriously, what more needs to be said?

Tie between Portland, Oregon....and Houston, Texas.
Portland has incredibly beautiful nature, great weather, and a fantasically warm and friendly populace....good economy too.
Houston is a true melting-pot city, very multicultural without all the social ignorances of NYC. Better economy and cheaper living expenses as well.

I haven't been back since the hurricane, but New Orleans is still my favorite, the food, the music, the weather, and of course the people, I can only pray that katrina didn't change it that much.
