just for fun:

they say that a name (JUST a name) sends out vibes to people about what to expect from that person. the name sonny implies that he will be reliable and responsible, indicates that he will be clever, have good business judgment, and an appreciation of the finer things of life. he will mature quicker than other children his age and above all else he holds family and home to be important.

i always relate names to people i've known, and sonny doesn't sound like an attractive guy to me. haha

The name Thomas is cool but isn't there any other male names from your husbands family tree to blend with Thomas better than Sonny?

I don't care for Sonny, to much teasing to be done with it.

I had a very good friend named Sonny that passed away last year, isn't that strange? I don't suppose he lived in South East Florida?

I personally think that just about any name that is given in memory of a loved one is perfect. Especially if there was much love and respect for the man who carried the name!

Thomas Sonny sounds better. Think of it this way, your baby grows up and becomes a man. Do you think he will be happy as a man named Sonny?

I like it! It's different, but not weird which is a good thing. Sonny is a great name..go with it! Also, it would be a great thing to name him after his uncle and grandfather...he will think that is really cool when he gets older I think :) Congrats by the way on the baby!

I'm not crazy about the name, but it has special meaning for your husband, and it's not like it's a really horrible or strange name. I think if you gave your son this name and everyone called him Sonny, nobody would think anything about it. I'm thinking about how kids make fun of names at school (probably because they made fun of my name all the time, so I'm always sensitive to that), but I don't think this name would trigger that kind of problem.

I like Thomas more. Sonny sounds like the cartoon character for cereal.

maybe you should try naming the baby thomas as a first name, and using sonny as a family nickname?

What is the standard qualities of people named Sonny?

I am a strong believer that names carry personality characteristics beyond simply genes and enviroment.

Think of all the "Mike"s you know....Think of all the "Laura"s you know. Think along the lines of the strongest personality traits they all have in common. I don't know any Sonny's.
