I highly recommend iTunes, as an avid legal music downloader. It doesn't take long for it to download, and has a very wide selection, which updates everyday at lightning speed. Each song costs 99 cents, and you can have a 30 second listening preview (that you can play as many times as you want for free), and the cost of buying full albums varies (but usually you can get a very good deal). The quality of the music downloaded is pristine, and I find it a very good product! It's not that hard to find the song that you want, too.
My favorite feature of iTunes is that is recommends songs for you based on what you have bought. It had helped me discover some rockin' songs!
And, songs downloaded from iTunes can also be burned to CDs and mp3 players. There are even videos of some TV show episodes you can download, too!

I'm with Captain Eridani on this...the iTunes music store is really good and the songs, in my view, are reasonably priced. There is a good variety of music from different genres to choose from and since the service is provided by Apple, you can buy with confidence.
Download iTunes from apple.com and use that to access the music store.

F*** paying for that. Go to www.Limewire.com and download the freebie. I play in a band, trust me, nobody cares if you download songs. The only people that care are the fat cats at the top of the foodchain. They can kiss my a$$.
