why is it people in high paid selfish jobs get so much more respect and praise in life, than people with lower paid, thoughtful jobs? Is it really such a great human trait to be selfish
I mean what is more valued working for an insurance company, or helping old people live a quality of life. For most people the first one seems to be more appealing. Yet the latter a lot more essential. An insurance company can conn you out of thousands of pounds, and a carer could be a lifeline for someone. Seeing someone in a suit demands respect? Makes them a better person??
Will people ever get their priorities right???

i think that people who have jobs that really help society and where they have to think about a variety of issues are more likely to realise that material goods mean nothing. For this reason they are driven by compassion and a compulsion to be altruistic, so how much they get paid is irrelevant because their job gives them so much more than that.

Also, i disagree with Beba, your level of education has so little to do with whether or not you are a good person! there are plenty of educated fools churned out of the education system with no respect for society as a whole, and there are people with no education that just want to help people. who would you say is the better person? it's got so much to do with that individual.

Seeing someone in a suit doesn't necessarily demand respect let alone a handshake. It's a look, a fascade, a way to disguise distinguishability.

I would argue that some people don't get enough respect. Like hospital nurses, firemen, cops, EMS workers.

I totally agree. I would get paid twice as much if I worked on computers that I would as a nurse!!!

It doesn't make any sense at all. Money makes the world go round & all that matters to some people is how much you have in the bank!!

I would rather job satisfaction & dignity any day.....

I'm one of the "grunts." My work is not one of the jobs most people want to do. But it brings in necessary money, gives me free time to do other things I enjoy, and I get great satisfaction from a job well done. I don't have high pressure stress, deadlines, boss issues, etc. Most people in suits really wish they could have the benefits we grunts have, they just don't want to give up the live-beyond-your-means lifestyle.

The people with the power got all the good stuff and get everyone else to do the crud. They live in the ivory towers of power and control everything as they have for ever and always.

They have the power.

I appretiate where you are coming from but we all choose to live in these capitalist driven countries where money makes our worlds go round. I don't appretiate the generalisation that all high paid people are selfish either.

I think I've got my priorites right, I'm working hard to provide for myself and my future family.

Unfortunately, in the world we live in, the amount of money you make and your title somehow make people think you are a better person. There are good rich people and there are bad rich people, it's just like everything else. The few bad ones ruin it for the good ones.

No idea but sometimes it's not all gold that glitters. There are people who die for being respected but they fail as human beings so they try to humiliate and frighten people into respect.
