I'd go with flip flops. You can get them in almost any price range, color or style which makes them look fabulous with skirts, shorts, jeans or dresses.
If you're on a budget, you can go to your local 5 & dime shop (am I aging myself or what?) and find them for like 2 or 3 dollars. If cost is not a factor, there are some super cute ones the designers have circulating the stores. Check vogue.com and look at the detailed runway shots for some choices.

Flip flops are usually for the beach scenes, and tennis shoes give you a hint of active and chicky in the summer!

I can't wear anything but tennis shoes. I have very week ankles and anything that does not support my feet well can cause me to twist my ankle. But around the house I wear house shoes like slip on sandals. I don't like that piece that goes in between the toes on flip flops.
