The reason is, I hardly get to see my sons now and I pay so much child support, I am living at the poverty level. If this is possible, do I still have to pay child support?

If you terminate your parental rights then you would not have to pay child support. But you may never be allowed to see your children if you do this. If your ex is so concerned about you living in poverty she could always just send the child support money back. Also, if you can't afford to pay the child support you should go to court about it. They may lower it based on lack of ability to pay. The courts don't like to terminate parental rights except for adoption and stuff. You may have a hard time convincing a judge about that one.

How dare you put a question like this on the internet! Whether your x wants you to terminate your rights or not -- this one is totally up to you. To even pose a question: Is this possible? Lets me and the other readers know that you are looking for a way out of your responsiblity.

Unless you are a pedophilia, child molester, child beater; you need to see your children.

YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THESE CHILDREN TOO.

If I made $200 a month and the courts took $175 to pay child support for my children I would still survive and would want/expect a visit with them as often as possible. If my x presented a statement to me such as this I would try to have him/her committed into an Asylum

If you are paying too much child support -- that means you are making a lot of money. The court is only allowed to take 20 or 25 percent for one child. If you have 2 it is probably 30 or 35 percent.

That is 25% of your salary.

Also, the only reason you don't see your child/children that often is because you don't want too. It is illegal to disallow a father visitation (Father's right).

Because they are out of town you could get them for the entire summer (You need a lawyer).

You are suppose to be a man:::::::
Figure out a way to make more money and start spending more time with your children...

YOU SON OF A BISCUIT!!!!!!

Remember: One day these children will have to care for you. Children are a blessing.....

Just because you give up your rights to your children, it doesn't mean that you're exempt from your financial responsibility of paying child support. Why do you hardly ever get to see your sons? Maybe you should be spending more time with them? We make a lot of sacrifices in life for various things. You suggest living at poverty level, yet you're at a computer now, chances are you sleep in a bed at night, and have a roof over your head, with food in a refigerator (AND, you HAVE a refrigerator). Consider yourself lucky, my friend, because poverty level in this country might mean you can't afford cable TV... But you might still have two televisions! I'm not intending to rant, but seriously reconsider giving up those rights... Once you do, they may be very difficult to get them back if at all! Those are your children! Be a part of their lives! Get more involved with them! Be the father they want and need you to be!

If you terminate your rights to your children, you will not have to pay child support. But it also means that you take the chance of not ever seeing them again, because that gives her the right to let her next or current husband adopt them. Signing that document will take your child support payments away, and also your kids. Think about it before you do it.

Don't do it. Money might seem tight, but children are not going to care about that. They need a father, even if he sees them infrequently.
My 10 year old son has not seen or heard from his father in over 2 years. He is now beginning to hate him and it is the saddest thing I have ever seen. He has low self-esteem because he doesn't feel he was important enough for his father to stay in his life. He feels abandoned and I can speak from experience- it is the single most horrible thing you can do to a child.
Live at the poverty level. At least love is free.....

If you terminate your rights then you do not have to pay child support, and you will have no legal rights to see your children.

Wait, you don't want to pay child support?? Hey, you know she didn't make those kids by herself. If you really wanted to see your children you would. They can be adopted by another man to eliviate your need not to pay child support. What a dead-beat dad....geezze Lets give you the finger for Father's Day!

No, you won't have to pay child support, so long as you are currently up to date, any back that is owed, will still be owed, up to the time you sign over your rights. Giving them up, will give you no say, in anything they do, nor will you ever be able to see them, and she can have someone else adopt them, change their name..etc...

You can terminate your rights but I believe that you still have to pay child support until they are adopted. Once you terminte your rights, you are no longer entitled to see them. Can you not get your child support lowered?

My understanding is if you terminate your rights its almost as if all you are is the "sperm donor" you may get releived of your child support, however this is unlikely. You will lose all rights to your children, and it will be up to them when they are older to find you. It seems you may regret it in the long run.
