I've been having a problem with my legs for about 1 year. Everytime I go running (or walking for a long period of time) My upper legs start to itch uncontrollably. If I dont immediately stop running they get red and hot to the touch. It seems to happen right when i start to break a sweat and is ruining my exercise! This never happened until this year...I used to live in the city and walk everywhere and run quite often as well. I dont use any lotion except sometimes Aveeno, and I use dove soap. It seems to happen no matter what i wear (shorts, jeans, skirts) when walking or running. Im a 21/f , please help if you can because it is so unbearable.

You can actually get histamine release from trauma. Some repeated microtrauma from jogging can cause histamine release, although this is very rare.

Histamine release causes an allergic reaction -- in the case of trauma-induced histamine release, this is usually well localized. Any site where histamine is released will become red, warm, and very, very itchy.

He called for emergency help. I was rushed to a local hospital where after being examined, a doctor prescribed one small Benadryl tablet. The doctor said that I had suffered from a "histamine reaction". It was an allergic response to "jogging". Go figure! After 30 minutes my heart-rate normalized. Thirty minutes after that, the hives miraculously disapeared.

I found this info on the websites noted. I hope these help.
It sounds like the second website fits your needs most.

Relax. All that is is the blood flow increasing in your legs. I have had this happen before. Because you don't walk as much as you used to, your body is reacting (for lack of a better word) to the increase of blood flow to your muscles. Start off by walking, then walking fast, then eventully running over a period of a month or so. This can take a few weeks to get rid of. It is not an allergic reaction.

Maybe Heat bumps. See your docter. Or change the lotion and the soap you are using to see if it is an allergic reaction

Here is a thread I found.

I was looking for something about B-vitamins because I remember getting flushing and tingling on my arms when quitting smoking, and the two are related.

But this thread relates to exercise.
I hope you find your answer here.

maybe the sweat is causing it- try to coat your skin with baby oil before running and see if it alleviates the itching.

Try cortaid. I know someone who had the same problem and this solved it for them. This is a basic alergic reaction.
