Two wrongs don't make a right. The argument that because black people use the n-word TO EACH OTHER, so other people can use it doesn't hold. Black use of the word does not invite white people or any other ethnicity to use it. (If you don't agree walk up to a black person and use the word, hopefully you won't be on the ground after wards). I agree with the person who asked the question in that the word shouldn't be used at all, seeing as though it was originally used in a derogatory way. I believe that the reason it is used today (mostly among black people), is because some people are trying to spin it to be a positive word, despite it's negatives roots (i.e. phrases like my n***ga and such). However, the n-word still has a powerful connection to the shame and hurt it was used to cause in black people. It is because of that that many people are confused about whether it is ok for the word to be used. If everyone would stop saying the word and have the understanding that it shouldn't be said then no one would say it.

Its only a word, nothing more. If it got no reaction long ago when white people misused it, the word would have faded and died. But Blacks overreated, and let it become offensive. The racist whites got pleasure out of the reaction and made the word what it is today.

We have all been taught in our youth that sticks and stones....right? There is truth to that saying, and people should learn from it. ****** is just a word that really means nothing. Why be offended? Being offended for such a reason makes one a weak crybaby, and a loser. Let the racist people say it all they want, it dont mean a damn thing. It dont hurt a bit, so whatever turns their crank. If people like you would stop making such a big deal out of it, the problem would solve itself.

In truth we should not acknowledge anyone's race in the United States.

Of course this just does not happen and it is a shame. If there is to be equality in the United States then you need to start acting equal. No one is going to give you something because of your skin color, you have to earn what you get.

Every-time that you say that you are a Irish-American, or a Latino, or African American you are limiting yourself. Why can't you be an American, or a Texan and leave the rest behind.

try it out, be color blind, live, work and shop in a colorblind world and insist that those around you do the same.

The word is a term of endearment for those that use it amongst their brothern. It is differnt to hear it used by whites than by blacks.

Blacks wont use the "R" which denotes hatered.
Whites wont use the "a" which denotes wiggerism.

All in all its just a word like MuthFuccka or Bitcch

used like the word brother homeboy.

Those in the true inner city accept the fact that people are afraid of them so they use it like they use gold teeth and dreds.

Its a mechanism to scare the unwanted away.

Its just a word. Heres another word

Christinanity.

Now that word has killed more people than the holocaust and slavery combined

In a way thats true. But some people have learned to embraced the word as a friendly gesture. If you really think about it; it wasn't the word that hurt, it was the meaning behind it. I say the word sometimes but not as often as I use too. I don't like for any race to use it except for the black race. I think we have earned the right to joke around with something that was meant to do us harm. We have accomplished alo in life and we have so far to go. But I think that we deserve to joke with each other if we choose. But for another race to say it, to me they don't deserve to say the word. Because they haven't live through the demeaning part of it.

I am black and I don't feel disrespected when I get called a ***_a that's just saying homey or homeboy - girl. It's not the same as ni_ger. When someone is trying to be racist they don't say ***_a they are fast to say NI_GER get a clue. So until they call you a NI_GER let it roll.

Also which n word are you tired of. ***_a or Ni_ger
That's what I think.

Some people use it in a friendly way-like ghetto friends do
But some people use it in ignorance or racism, and that shouldn't be tolerated and if I could erase all the racist slurs in the world I would...but I can't control the world.
Being mixed with just about everything including african, I understand the aggrivation that words cause.

The N-word does not neccessarily mean a BLACK person; however, many people think it does! I don't feel people think they SHOULD say it. They just tend to use the word a lot.

Why are so many of your questions about race? I think many people take something small, and try to turn it into racism, just like your earlier question about black actresses!!!

Some people are just ignorant. I guess lots of black people call themselves n*gg*rs because they think it's cool and makes them special because any person of another race would get in trouble for it. And there are still old people around in the South that were raised to say it and raised their kids to say it, even if it was not meant maliciously.
