well obviously children deserve it. they are not capable of going out and purchasing insurance or obtaining a job that provides insurance. they are totally dependent, and if parents cannot provide this it becomes responsibility of the country to step in and foot the bill. my son receives a medical card b/c the simple fact that i cannot possibly afford to pay $565/month to add him to my insurance at the moment. i'm not proud of this and i'm looking at alternative plans, but sometimes us single parents have to swallow our pride and ask for help, and i'm sorry that some people take total advantage of what our gov't is willing to help us with

That's the Canadian way and also some European countries. Rationed health care. Those who can pay for health care must pay into the government system, those who are the neediest receive the health care on a rationed basis. Use a different system of rationing there. Elderly often denied treatment based on length of life even though they have paid in the most and treatment rationed to younger people who will live longer and thus get more bang for buck out of treatment. This does favor mothers and children though if you think health care should be rationed to them. The bottom line is that the care is rationed by whatever politically correct criteria you choose. Just by paying for your health care there is no guarantee that you will receive it if someone else regardless of payment is deemed more worthy by the PC standard of the day.

Not the elderly or the poor, but all children deserve the best health care possible. They are the future of any society or country, and need to be treated as an investment.

Yes, it is the responsibility of a civilized society to care for all these people, even the poor. If a country has a thriving, healthy economy there wouldn't be so many poor. The elderly and children cannot work to earn health care and should be able to recieve medical care.

Elderly and children NEED health care more than others. I do not think that any group DESERVES health care more than others (except criminals, they don't deserve any). Just because one is poor does not mean that they are more entitled to health care than Bill Gates, why would it?

its not that they deserve it more, everyone deserves health care. its that they usually need it more and have less money. children and old people have weaker immune systems and are more likely to get hurt and thats why they need it and the poor just can't afford these crazy health bills on their own

I do agree but they are too many people out there who abuse the system so much that people who really do need the health care coverage cannot receive it
