McAfee for antivirus and firewall. Pest Patrol, Adware, and Windows Defender for the antispy stuff. Nothings 100% I guess, but so far, so good. I just don't download dumb stuff (actually I do very little downloading), I delete spam (don't even open), and I don't do a ton of web surfing. Just a little here and there when I'm looking up stuff. I don't trust the internet to be on it a lot. My modem is off when I'm not on.

There are so many out there. Yeah, AVG Free worked great, (for a year) but it is a trail thing I guess and it won't allow me to uninstall AVG. So for a FREE download it does work on anti virus and such. But now I get pop-ups saying "Installation error" like 5 times everytime I turn my computer on. I tried Spybot, the same AVG message wont go away. Web root, doesn't work either. I bought $84 McAfee 5-in-1, the AVG still pops up. So beware of FREE anti virus downloads. Apparently even purchased anti virus/spyware won't get rid of AVG FREE. Additional note: I read "Classic" responce about SUPERantispyware and am down loading it now to see if it can help me out. I will let you know. 36 minutes and counting..... Problem still there! Reboot effort made no changes. I would NOT use SUPERantispyware!

This total Package works great for me.

Here is a package that protects me and my neighbor. I haven't been infected in 5 months, and since I put it on his computer, he hasn't been infected in 3 months. He likes to download porn and it still protects him. Best of all everything is Free and work as good and better than pay packages.

Download the latest Java Update 7. Then remove any older versions from your computer.

Go here and download the following programs: All will be in the first 3 red boxes.

Firewall. - If you have XP with SP2 then use the existing Windows firewall. It is excellent. If not then download Zone Alarm free version.

Anti-Virus program - If you have one then use it or replace it with one of these: AVG 7.1 or AVAST

Anti-Spy programs: Use more than one. None can catch all the garbage out there: Windows Defender Beta 2, Spybot Search and Destroy, AdAware SE Personal.

This program will work with the AV and AS programs and add an additional layer of protection and it really works great.

This program will alert you to bad sites:

These are my recommendation based on what protects me and my neighbor

The best one is one that was updated only seconds ago. Before the virus spreads.
