My ex-husband agreed to and signed our divorce decree. In that decree, it specifically states what I'm entitled to. I didn't ask for much. Just my personal belongings and my share of the house (he bought me out). Our divorce was final on December 16, 2005. I've contacted him multiple times and in different ways (phone, email, and family messengers). He will not respond and I'm still trying to get my things. We're talking pictures, my son's childhood drawings and toys, etc. He says he threw them away. My next step is to have the police department escort me to the property to retrieve my belongings. I live in a completely different state and hate to make the plans just to find out that he HAS thrown them away. Any thoughts, suggestions or past experiences? As a sidebar, our divorce was uncontested and we used the same attorney just to process the paperwork. It was completely amicable until he found out I met someone else (way after our divorce started).

I would contact a second laywer, you are entitled to your things, and if he has thrown them away, then you can sue him for the estimated value. I believe you can serve him with a lawsuit for that amount and maybe that will tell him your not joking and you want your stuff. I know those items have no real value, mostly sentimental, but that's where the Laywer comes in. if you can trust the first laywer to not tell your ex you could use him, but i'm not sure if they're friends or something.

Honey, I mean this in all honesty and sympathy. You need to just let it go. He's obviously a jerk (understatement of the year). To send the cops could escalate to something bad and possibly harmful for you. I think you just need to accept those things are gone. My fiance lost over $40k in his divorce with his unfaithful exwife. And we are unable to get custody of his 3 kids she abuses! Do you have your son in your custody? Be grateful for that. I'd live in a shoebox if I knew I could get all the children with us and away from their mom.

The only way to resolve this is to go there (with the police) and retrieve what you can. You don't have any other options. It will at least provide some finality for you.

If my ex threw my things away and broke that court order, he would find out I have no problem suing his *** and will travel to sue him in court and hold him financially responsible. Can your ex say the same about you?
