I think animals have the right to be respected more than we typically do. Yes we eat them, but we shouldn't run around killing them just to have "fun" (you wouldn't like someone running around killing humans for "fun" would you?) and we shouldn't mistreat them or destroy their habitats. Whether you believe in creation or evolution (or both), animals were here before we were, and they don't go around messing up the world the way we do. They know how to live harmoniously with nature. They could probably teach us a lot, if we'd only pay attention.
So I'm not going to stop eating meat, but I think that if we had to kill every animal we ate, a lot of us would probably become vegetarians.

Actually, I don't, seeing that we eat most of them. I think some people's desire for animal right stems from emotional attatchments similar to how we view pets, but that raises another question, if someone is FOR animal rights, which animals deserve the rights? Can some animals have more rights than others?
To put it simply, I agree with you; animal rights is B.S.

i think animals should have their own rights yeah they don't drive cars or go buy clothes(some put clothes on animals). then there are the protection groups for animals say they are over populated we can kill them so does that mean we can kill people since we are over populated in some areas. well i personaly think animals lives should be right up there with people lives but thats just me.

All creatures must eat to live and all complex animals eat living food. If food has rights we all starve. Where do you draw the line do we give rights to bacteria worms cute little bunnies ?

As a Catholic, I don't believe animals have souls. If they did, then they might have more rights. Anyhow...
Animals have no rights in my opinion, nor should they. They are there for the benefit of humanity. I'm not saying that it is right to kill them or torture them, or anything like that. It is fine to kill and eat them. It isn't ok to kill them and then leave them to rot. It's not ok to torture them.
Actually, the above rules would follow for all life, such as plants...

Every living species has the right to live.
Regardless of what abusive narcissistic religions claim, the earth was NOT created for the use and abuse of mankind.
While religions don't accept this, men will continue to violate the right to live of anything around them (fellow men included)

Animals do not think or feel, they are not self aware, and they do not have souls. They are just property. Treat them as such. Their owners have rights. Respect those.

they should have rights, they have the will to live. we are animals too, we just use the other animals to benefit ourselves. people don't care about them, and they have the power to do want the want (mostly)
people can be disappointing sometimes

Trees live also. Seaweed lives also. By rights what do you mean. They already for the most part do what they want, pay no taxes, obey no laws. Are you wanting to let them vote???
