I love looking at luxury homes on the internet (I can't really afford them, but who doesn't love dreaming?) and noticed that some have what's called a "great room." What is a "great room?"

Well lets see how I can explain this. It's not like a living room but more like a room you would have a pool table in and have partys in. Some times it's like a living room and family room combined. Hope that helps.

"Great Room" is truly a space in a home, but also a sales/ad ploy.

It was born out of Den, TV room, Play room, etc. It usually includes a living room, dining room, can be open to a foyer, hallways, or patios.

It takes away formailty basically but gives an illusion of a home being more spacious. It has benefits and detractors, but apparently in todays world the Great Room is here to stay.

I personally think of a Great Room,,,as any I feel at ease in, comfortable in, even if it's small. I enjoy large, but luxury an d size are relative to what one truly needs or uses.

I have to smile at the screen name,,, and no offense to you, but I disagree,,,smiles.

A great room is one huge, huge room. It is usually the kitchen, dining area and family room all together. No walls, just open space.

The big room is the magnanimous parlour to entertain the guests and visitors, i.e., the room other than bed rooms and common living room.
