You cannot locate a death record with just a social security number. Death certificates are filed by city and county, then transferred to the state office of vital statistics. In order to obtain a death record you typically need to provide the name of the deceased and an approximate date of death. In addition, at the local level they are usually maintained by either the city health department or on a county level by the County Clerk's office.

I never heard of the band Social Security Numbers. Did they play death metal music? I didn't know death metal had been around long enough to be played on records. Who knew.

Check with your local Social Secuirty Office they will tell you what you need to do. And the Funeral Director or the place that did her funeral will have a copy Also You can Call Vital Statistics And Order a copy of her Death Certificate. I am unsure of the cost but they will mail it to where you are living now What Kind of Claim are you trying to file for her now if she died that long ago Just Curious

Check the Latter Day Saints free genealogy site, there is a SSS death record section. If you have the SS numbe and a name it will be easy to find out.
It's free and is an excellent reference tool.

http://www.familysearch.org/
link is to Latter Day Saints web site....
if you enter name up person ...results will be returned...
some of them will be from old census records and not applicable...
Just scroll down list until you get to Social Security Death Index....
again...
you might get a long list and you will have to eliminate unlikely candidates.
