Before the government became involved, the American South was beset by all sorts of water-borne diseases that were very debiliating. That was why cartoons and jokes always referred to people in the South as being slow and lazy, but in fact they were sick. These diseases were controlled and in some cases eradicated through federal action, NOT by the private sector.

Polio was eradicated in the USA mainly by federal action in cooperation with the March of Dimes.

Smallpox was eradicated by world government action.

Before the federal government became involved, an embarrassing percentage of American children were undernourished and hunger was a very real problem. Of course, now the new problem is improper nutrition, where children are overfed with empty calories.

Federal action had dramatically reduced the poverty level in the USA in the 1960's. The poverty level is now reaching back to historical high levels because of the reversal.

Is that enough? There is more if you would like.

There are a lot of things that government does. First and foremost is maintaining our military forces and protecting our country. Social Security provide benefits to the disabled and elderly. The Department of Veterans Affairs provides various types of assistance (medical, home loans, educational programs etc.) to our many veterans. The Small Business Administration helps small businesses get started. The Department of Commerce helps businesses with import/export assistance. The FAA insures that our skies can handle thousands of planes at any given time. We have the best postal system in the world. The list is endless - but maybe not that obvious.

Nothing good is coming out of this.
