Well in New York there are a wide varity of things to do. You could go work at a place of business, whatever that may be tha suits your fancy. Also you could walk dogs, I hear that pays really well. You could trying mowing lawns also, another thing you could do is go and see if any where is offering internships, some pay some don't, but it's a good way to get experiance for future jobs in life. Walking dogs. Man you can make quite a bit of money doing that. I think the going rate is $10 per half an hour or something! I'd try that if i were you! Good luck!

you can offer to do other chores, like weeding or mowing lawns if you are in an area with gardens, walk dogs, make sure newspapers and mail are picked up for neighbors on vacation, tutoring younger kids, housecleaning,
it all depends on how old you are and what experience you have had, or whether you can get a job or not

well if you're 14+ you can work for summer youth. go to nyc.gov and they'll tell you about it. although i think the application deadline is up.
