after a fresh install of windows xp i thought i would give a different anti-virus a go,so i downloaded and installed the one year evaluation from computer accosiates"e\trust anti-virus"
has anyone used this before as i would be intrested to hear some opinions on the software,as normal i have also used spy-bot and adaware
is there a "best" anti-virus program,as you hear all the hype about "norton and mcafee"but ive heard they drain recourses,is that true?

I have had both these av programs.
The norton can create problems if you are not too computer literate. There are a ton of questions about why this happened and how to fix it with norton.
The CA program on the other hand is more user friendly and I havn't had a too many problems setting it up. This program can also be set up to update itself on a daily basis, that way it can keep you armored from the latest online threats.
Any program you use for an anitvirus application will drain your resources.
Be prepared to do some learning with each product, that way it will be more user friendly to you.
I had the norton back in February when the media warned about the online "strike" that was about to happen. Whatever it was that hit my system, it went right through the norton software. Locked me out of my own well system.
I was running sp pro with every imaginable update that comes out. I lost everything and had to re-install my sytem from scratch.
Norton really is a target.

I can confirm that Norton and McAfee which have you load their security centers as part of the install are extremely bloated programs that can bring a computer to its knees by wasting resources. Whats worse is they actually charge you to use their product for personal use.

I have found both AVG and Avast are effective tools and I would also load spyware blaster as well for protection. SPYBOT and Adaware are good for cleaning out spyware but either do not protect you at all from future infections (adaware) or they have buggy protection (spybot). Windows Defender is a bit liberal in defining spyware and lets some questionable products load but is pretty effective against the realy nasty spyware. In all cases, I am talking about free for personal use versions not the pay versions.

eTrust is an excellent AV program. It is the AV program provided in the SBC DSL package and I use it. The AV programs are made to meet a standardized method of detection and removal. What makes an AV program better or worse is the updates. eTrust updates at least once a day and often more than once. The updates are the information needed for the AV program to detect and remove new virus's.

A single AV program is all you can use. Any more than one will conflict and not protect you.

You need more than one Anti-Spy program to protect you. If you choose to use only one AS program, I recommend Windows Defender Beta 2. You can get it it at www.filehippo.com

I also recommed you go here and download Cyberhawk. It works with your AV and AS programs and adds another layer of protection. Just download and let it run. No setup required:

E.trust is a low level virus program. Try AVG which is one of the best around. I wouldn't go with Norton because they fail to update their products correctly and tend to hurt the over all user on the PC whom like gaming.

the bigger the company the more bad it is.. cause the viruses are made to attack that program as well.

Norton are the McAfee two programs that happens too...

PC Magazine has rated BITDEFENDER as the best anti-virus software.

It should remove via Add/Remove Programs. If it's still showing, come off the net, switch the AV off, try again and then reboot. Should be gone.
