just a simple physics question, what part of an amplifier is the most important and why, too lazy to research, doing a homework for a friend so hey, why not use yahoo answers and let the wonderful nice people that are bored to death answer it ha?

The plug on the end that goes into the wall!

The real answer is that every component is as important as the other.
Just go in and snip a wire or a resistor for fun.

If I leave my brain at home I can't function, can I? Is the brain the most important organ in the human body? What if I leave my liver at home. Soon I'm dead. How about I leave my stomach at home and go to a Chinese buffet. Gads what a mess I'd be in! So is the brain more important than the liver or stomach. Me thinks not. For any complicated organism or device to work it needs all it parts so each part is as important as the other.

What is the most important part of a horse? Is it its head, or is its front or hind legs…? We need all the parts for it to work properly don’t we?

An amplifier, in general, consists of a controlled channel though which flows more energy than the amount required to control this channel. A transistor is one of such devices. Field effect transistors (go to the site and see a movie http://www.pbs.org/transistor/science/info/transmodern.html ) for example contain allow flow of current from source (S) to drain (D) as the voltage on the gate (G) controls this current. We can also have operational amplifiers, magnetic amplifiers, and mechanical amplifiers and so on. All of them will either have a transistor or an equivalent of this solid state device.

I think you probably were talking about a guitar a similar audio amplifier. It has quite a few components and all of them are important. You will find that in good design every part has a reason for being there. The horse, the one I mentioned earlier, can run without its mane or its tail but why should be hurt this animal :)?

The most important componentS in amplifiers are resistors and transistors. I say components because without both of them the amplifier is useless. Just transistors and just resistors by themselves would not produce any effect. In addition to these basic components, inductors, capacitors, and diodes are used to enhance the characteristics of the amplifier, eliminating noise, and making it behave more like an "ideal" circuit. Some amps use digital signals to replace many of the components, however the power handling ability of microprocessors is too low to eliminate the need for inductors and resistors external to the CPU.
