See .... you have it just right.

The U.S. doesn't know either and that is why they turned on a few of our rockets, just in case.

When countries test missles, it is customary to give all of the other interested countries all of the information about the test in advance. Like, when you will launch it, what flight path you intend, how far will it go. North Korea has done none of these.
The last time they did it, they launched a missle over Japan with no real warning. The danger is that they could pull a sneak attack and bomb someone when they aren't expecting it. So the other countries are all kind of freaking out because North Korea recently developed the ability to make nukes. So they don't know if it is a nuke or not. But it probably isn't, because it's a lot harder to make a nuke that is small and light enough to go on a missle.

They are about to test launch a long range missile. It will not be carrying a harmful warhead. At the same time, and previously, NK is claiming to have developed nuclear weapons technology. Combine this with a long range missil capability, and you have the threat of a nation that might launch a nuclear tipped missile.

In the case of NK, threats are its usual method of extracting economic aid from other nations so as to perpetuate its government's existence - given that the government steals practically all the wealth of NK for itself and the army.

In short, its blackmail. NK knows that if it were to launch a nuke at US or an ally, US would obliterate it. On the other hand, it is close enough to Japan, SK, and soon the west coast of the US to require our attention. The issue is how to respond. Buy the peace with $$$, or intervene militarily before NK does something very stupid. The leader, Kim Il-jung is a bad man and a bit of a loon, but I doubt he is stupid enough to start WWIII.

In response to SPHERE, actually the US and NK ARE still technically at war, since the Korean War was never resolved. The Korean War was merely suspended as a result of an armistace.

The missle test is just a test for a new misslie, and about the nukes issue, the North Korea is bluffing on the nuclear weapons to put the scare in USA from attacking.

These are the same questions being pondered by the international intellegence community (CIA etc.) the fact is nobody outside of North Korea can say with certainty wether the missle exists or not. The announced launch could be a trick, it could be a convential warhead or it could be nuclear. Nobody will really know until south korea goes up in smoke.

THey dont know for sure, thats why they dont want to risk them firing anything.

North korea is in one of the worst depressions economically right now. The have no fuel for heat, no food, no electric... its a horrible situation for those people. It was cause by their own governments lack of concern for the people. They spent all their monies on research for weapons, paying for their own lives, and paying off places like russia.

When they ran out of money they started feeding the minds of their people with lies about how it is the fault of the united states that they have no heat or food. This urged the population to work harder for the same nothing they have, so they could turn the wheels of their war machine an threaten the world of democracy.

Their only real ally right now is Russia, who claims to be our ally, which we all know is nothing more than a smile and a nod to keep us happy.

Its really a very concerning situation. Paled only by the chinese-Taiwanese stand-off. Not to mention iran and iraq and the better part of the middle east all pissed and armed.

Invest in lead siding and iodine pills.

They do not have a nuke. what they have is something with the possible capabillity to get a nuke here. They only have regular missles right now. They are working on developing a nuke, but it is at least 10 years down the road.

OMG, they do not have nukes you shitbrains. They want to have nukes, and they have the stuff for makeing nukes BUT THEY DO NOT HAVE NUKES YET. They want it to seem like they have nukes, but no one actually believes them.

You might want to do some research on North Korea and their leader.

He is an autocrat playing a little boys game with big boys toys. He is trying to get attention, by all this missle crap, so that the other nations of the would will feed his people while he continues to supress them.

The media LOVES to play the fear card...it keeps em' coming back for more since bad news is whar sells(see all the gossip mags at the local market)

North Korea and Iran are simply playing the current administration in the White House for fools! ...

"axis of evil" stated Bush. That may be true, but a great way to get people pissed off at you is to start throwing mud, then they will prove to you that they are the problem you implied.

...an interesting bunch of comments so far.Whether or not North Korea has a nuke is irrelevant to all of us.What are we going to do about it? I did notice one comment said we we not at war with N.Korea.That's not true. There was never a formal declaration of surrender issued by N.Korea after the Korean war.It was only a truce.
