My bf just installed a link system on my computer. If I was to download music on to my computer, would that slow his computer down?

It does not slow his computer down because that "link system" you are talking about is a router that basically "splits" your internet connection without cutting it in half (For example, if the internet connection is 6 Megs, it will be 6 Megs for both of you, not 3 Megs). However, it may pose problems to both of your computers if you change BIOS on your computer or edit Universal Internet settings.

Yes it will. Downloads take up memory and that slows the computer down.

Of course it will slow his computer down. There is only so much processing speed available! Try to get some more RAM and CPU processing power to counter this problem.
