No, most modern vending machines have a one-way flap that lets the coin in but doesn't let it out. It's works something like a rotating human walk-through. Another method employed is to turn the coin by 90 degrees as soon as it enters so that if it is pulled back, it will not be able to come out from the very slot that it went in through. A better technique used extensively in Las Vegas is to keep a series of small Electronic Eyes through the length of the slot, like the human filters in metro stations.
