I had an idea I pitched to my local legislators ... went something like this:
When you first get a pilot's license, do they let you fly 747s?
So why in the heck do we let kids with the plastic on their new licenses still warm buy and ride race machines that are designed to push the envelop of physics?
That would grab'em, see. Then I'd suggest, calmly ...
Suppose, just suppose, the rules for MC licenses were changed so that for the first two years you owned the bike, you could only ride machines of 500cc displacement or smaller? No wrecks in two years? You can move up to the big boys. Have a wreck, you gotta take a class to move up.
That would give the kids a chance to polish their skills, before their enthusiasm kills them.
Nothing so far, but I only made the initial suggestion two months ago after a string of fatal bike wrecks involving three young (very young - like 17-19) riders on super go-fast bikes. In each case, "Excessive speed and driver error were contributing factors."
Don't you just love that cop-speak? What it means is that they were going way too fast for their skill set.
Anyway, that was my .02 American Simoleons. I intend to pursue this further, but feel free to cop the idea, if you think it has merit.

i think either the fact that if they get caught they wont be able to legally get it for a while (unless its a dirt bike) or if its people you know you ( i know its harsh) you could take the to a hospital to talk to someone who crashed thier bike or find footage on the web. kids that age dont realize all the risks when you hop on a bike.
i have one now but i was the same way till when i was youngeri saw how people get messed up and 90% of the time its not the bikers fault.

LOL- A HOT girlfriend should do the trick ;-)
Btw- I started RACING motorcycles at that age, and today many sanctioned amateur racing clubs have classes all the way down to age 4 ! If they want to ride, educate- not denigrate.

I can't think of a damned thing! I was trying to come up with some sort of bike repellent, but I literally cannot think of a single thing that would make them less attractive.

Buy a racing motorcycle and take a racing school, its a great way to legally get your ya-yas out and build real driver knowlege.

legal age dont have anything to do with it. start em riding young on small bikes they can handle. as they grow they can progress to larger and faster machines. its NOT lack of years lived, its lack of exp. that kills.
