Women kept houses and babies, men worked in the fields and other manual labor, eventually it was easier and warmer for them to wear pants, while women had no need for them.

In Biblical days Men wore Skirts, Women wore pants, But think the Chastity belt came in there some where!

Men have worn all kinds of wears, in various parts of the world. Probably everyone wore a loose skirt to begin with. However, generally, men had to ride on horses, and work. So, breeches came into existence. Women on the other hand, had more sedantary role in society. So, women fashion (in those victorian era) made clothes that tended to hide rather than show more. So, came those voluminous skirts, that would make it impossible to tell a womans figure, or even let one see their ankles.
So, those tight breeches became pants, and the voluminous skirts - well they arnt voluminous anymore.

Back in the day a woman did not have the same protection from the results of her menstral cycle; if they wore pants then the results would be quite apparent. So if a woman leaked while wearing a dress, she could simply go and clean herself up without any detection.
Also, it made it easier for women to urinate without having to expose themselves in any way. Remember, proper toilets were rare.

Good question. I believe the answer is that it was once believe that if women wore anything that covered thier vagina they would get a yeast infection. Personally, to me, either gender should be able to wear a skirt..

Men rode horses. Men in skirts can't really ride horses.
