People need to understand the government is not really on your side, both Republicans and Democrats. They take you money no matter what you think of the job they are doing. Businesses on the other hand must please you, the customer, or they will go out of existance. Thats why the government needs to stay out of business affairs, the companys will pay workers whatever the job they are doing is really worth. This keeps the cost to us consumers down. If we force businesses to pay people more for the same amount of work, it will force them to fire the low wage employees as well as make their products cost more. So instead of increasing the minimum wage, I believe we should get rid of it completely.

This is the thing about the minimum wage - it is, on the whole, helping minors get their first car. Very few families are dependent on one or two parents making minimum wage.

Also, some people are pointing out that it will cost jobs in the long run, but I'm going to explain how:

Suppose you have 10 employees who are being paid minimum wage ($5.15 an hour). Then suppose Congress raises the minimum wage to $7.25 an hour. Your "per hour cost" goes from $51.50 for all 10 to $72.50. You can do one of two things:

You can raise the price of whatever you sell to compensate for the increasing price, which will lower the volume of your business, eventually requiring you to fire employees or close altogether.

OR

You can fire 3 employees to keep your cost-per-hour the same. By keeping their jobs, however, they will have to work harder to keep up with demand.

Either way, some employees who are making minimum wage get hurt by it. The employees who are fired by the raising of the minimum wage have a few options too:

Find another job. During their job search, they will be drawing unemployment benefits from the taxpayers...

Go on Welfare or other taxpayer-subsidized relief, which costs the taxpayers more...

Turn to a life of crime. After being caught, they are put in jail, during which their entire stay will be paid for by the taxpayers...

All three options are bad for the fired employees, due to reduced financial status, and for the taxpayers, who have to respond with ever-more money to pay for it all. The only winner is big government (eat your heart out, liberals - your scheme is exposed!), which gets more and more money from the taxpayers for entitlement programs.

Stupid, greedy, lazy, fdjaksl;fjdasl; (consider all that right there profanity).

I feel angry and hopeless because there is nothing we can do. The government doesn't work FOR the American people, the governement works AGAINST the American people. And what is even more sickening is that most of those people were born with a silver spoon in their mouths and don't need an extra $3,000.

There are children starving in our own streets and mothers and fathers struggling to put dinner on the table and clothes in the closets.

It's sickening.

They all need a little visit from KARMA GIRL! (That's my fake super hero name).

So you saw that in the news too did you? I was really upset. I can not belieive that congress put themselves over the rest of the nation but I guess that is why they went into politics in the first place. It burns me up big time. We need that funding to help those in need HERE and they make enough money as it is, plane trips, trips they can write off as business travel, oh I am so mad I can't say anything further. I live alone, no boyfriend or husband and when I read that I was so shocked, I couldn't vent to anyone that cared but myself! Gald to see you're up on whats going on in Washington DC. I mentioned it to a friend of mine, she didn't know what I was talking about. I wish we could, as a people, have more power over what is done in the White House and other political organizatios. Rrrrrrrrrrr.......

If you're earning minimum wage, you need to work harder, and smarter, and if that doesn't work, find a new employer. Minimum wage increases just drive up employment costs, and make illegal immigrants that work for less seem more attractive.

You're talking about a republican controlled congress!
They could care less about the average American!
It's all about large corporations, big oil, lies, deception, and big government control.

Don't worry, the mid-terms are just around the corner!

It's typical of our elected officials. I think it's time we stopped electing "politicians" and put some real people in their places. Someone said recently "If you want to fix Social Security, put the politicians on it!
