According to wikipedia... Beethoven was baptized on December 17, but his family and later teacher Johann Albrechtsberger celebrated his birthday on December 16.

In a Biography book I have, says Ludwig van Beethoven was born in Bonn, near the Rihn river, on december 17 of 1770, in a poor house in Bonngasse Street number 515.
But it says he was born between " 16 and 17 of December", maybe was at midnight.

The most popular answer is the 17th, and could be misinterpreted for many reasons. He could of been born on the eve of the 16th, and perhaps not recorded in the family bible until the morning after, maybe? But yes, the 17th is the most common answer.

That's been a controversy for a long time.
Did you know that Beethoven's mother was a prostitute who had herpes, their were 8 children in his family and everyone of them including Beethoven himself were born blind or deaf.
That's because during that time the medical society did not know how to preform a Cesarean or C-section delivery. And we know now we must do that with certain cases of mothers who are pregnant and have STDs.

when people are born so long ago, it is really hard to keep records accurate. Usually, only the year of their birth is listed, and it is "close enough" for most people.
