OK, guess I'll drop a bomb on you guys. Why arent we happy just the way things are? why all the questions people? What more must we understand about existance, when indeed the answer predates all life, and may never be discovered in any of our lifetimes?
And on a more individual level...to you, the ppl, what answer would satisfy you.Thats an honest question, what would you like the answer of life to be?

Okay, that's a lot of questions.

First off, some people are perfectly happy with the way things are, others aren't, and the difference is in the individual.

Secondly, people ask questions because people unlike plants and clouds, are thinking beings and thinking naturally causes questions. Some say that faith and doubt rely on each other, well, it's the same between knowing and asking.

Thirdly, there is nothing more that we MUST know about existence because if we must know it we would know it. We are just curious. We desire, but we do not need.

Finally, the answer to life on a personal note? What answer and for what question? Look, we may all struggle with the realization of being finite beings, but life itself asks no questions, which is a real blessing since we keep popping so many of them out! hehe! I know that I do not know and that's as good as it's going to get and that's okay with me.

Define your terms. Happiness is a state of mind. It is a choice anyone, even an unjustly condemned prisoner, can make. The poorest individual can still be happy, the richest unhappy. Being happy has very little to do with being satisfied. I'm very happy. I'll never be satisfied with the amount of knowledge I have. I always want to know more, even if there is no intrisic value to the information. On the other hand, I'm often satisfied with the food I've consummed after a meal at my favorite shabu shabu restaurant. Not matter how "Happy" a time I've spent with my nieces and nephews, I'm never "satisfied that it's been enough time.

I think the moment you stop asking and learning and thinking thoughts you haven't thought before is the moment you die. Your body may live on for years, but inside you'll be dead. So this is why we're never satisfied. Because it's all about growing and learning and trying to make the world better even if we know we can't possibly fix everything. However, a lot of people lust after material objects and status among their peers, and end up making themselves miserable because they ignore the important stuff. Ok maybe they wouldn't be satisfied if they were all philosophers either, but at least they'd be getting somewhere instead of just accumulating towers of stuff that means nothing.

Lord, I'm glad we're not - happy with the way things are, that is. Oh, it's OK to be content with your life and your self, as long as you know that you're still, and will always be, a "work in progress."
By the way, look at the world around you. Can you sincerely say that you're "happy" with the way things are? If we didn't keep asking questions (even questions that we know we'll never be able to answer), well, I suspect we'd all be carving our messages on a rock in a cave somewhere.
The "answer" to life - well, life's not a "question" to me; it's a journey on which I can try to learn and become all I'm capable of becoming. And along the way, I keep in mind what Henry James wrote:
"Three things in human life are important: the first is to be kind; the second is to be kind; and the third is to be kind."
Never be satisfied - that way lies only complacency and smugness

Edward T. Welch wrote, "If our culture is misguided in its understanding of God, then it will be misguided in its understanding of people who are made in his image." Thous the Fear of Man guides us toward the feeling that we require competition w/ each individual entering out lives. Each of us has something that controls who we are, whether it is the perfect car or the latest plasma TV just on the market. Something that will make us stand out so we can show off. We are constently unhappy b/c we are placing the wrong items/images ahead of what should be guiding us, God.

Who said I wasn't happy? I'm very happy!

As the Buddha said, all unhappiness is based on comparison. I turn that around and declare that the key to happiness is gratitude.

It's very easy for me to see how lucky I am in nearly every area of my life. I believe in happiness; I believe we have a right to happiness and that happiness is a verb.

As Thorton Wilder said, "The world is full of such wonderful things."

We aren't happy because we have a materialistic, gain-oriented culture and we are always encountering images and stories of people who have more than us. We have been taught to covet their fame and possession, and that without these things life is miserable and meaningless. All of us are guilty of breaking the tenth commandment, I'm afraid.

It is in our charecteristics to explore, attempt to answer questions of the unknown. whats out their? If you fathem the size of the universe then it is clear that ANYTHING is possible, our closet galaxy to us is 3billion light years away, that means we couldn't reach that galaxy unless traveling for 3billion years at the speed of light.

it gives man people purpose to explore.

I think the answers anybody in our lifetime will ever have is in death.
