I just found out today that I am pregnant....again. My first and only child has just turned 8 months old. My husband and I decided on the IUD for our contraception about 8 weeks after our son was born. I haven't been feeling well and my period is a couple weeks late, I took a test today and it's positive.
I hear the there is a 20% chance of miscariage when you have the IUD taken out. Has anyone ever gotten pregnant with an IUD before, and if so, what were the procedures and how soon before you know whether or not you baby was going to be okay?
My husband and I have talked about it and we have decided that we would like to have the baby if we can, so any advice anyone can give on how to up our chances of not miscarrying would be great. Oh, and before anyone goes the good care route, I have a wonderful team of mid-wives who took care of my first pregnancy and I have an appointment in the morning.

I have a friend who got pregnant with her first child while on birth control pills. She got pregnant with her second child with an IUD in place. She got pregnant with her third child even though she AND her husband were using birth control. Those "kids" are now 35, 33, and 21. The 33-year-old who was conceived when her mom had an IUD in is a married mother of two and she is just fine. She and her husband are missionaries to the Dominican Republic.

Thats good that u have already made an appointment because u need to get checked out ASAP. My friend had the same thing happen to her and she miscarried. It all depends on how far along you are. I wish you all the best of luck and if its not an inconvience I would go ahead and go to the Emergency Room. Its always better to get checked out now rather than later.

I haven't had it happen to me, but it can happen. No method of birth control, other than total abstinence or hysterectomy, is completely foolproof in preventing pregnancy. Even an IUD is only 99% accurate.
As for keeping your baby safe, for the love of all that's right and holy, don't ask us, ask your doctor! For this pregnancy, you're going to need more than just the midwives. (I have nothing against midwifery, and I'd go that route if it were available to me, but you REALLY need to go see a specialist.)

well when I had mine put in they told me that if you get pregnant you have to have it removed right way, because it could hurt the baby! I have never heard of someone getting pregnant, but I hope everything goes okay tomorrow and you are able to safely have it removed!

Well I've never heard of getting pregnant w. an IUD before! There's usually a man involved.
Seriously statistically it shouldn't do any harm, have another why not!
