SPF means Sun Protection Factor.

If it says 15, it means that you will need 15X the suns rays to get a burn. SPF 30 means you need 30 X the suns rays to get a burn. Considering the sun is at least 30X stronger than twenty years ago because of the depletion of the ozone, you are basically back to square one.

The only thing that will BLOCK the suns rays is zinc oxide. Ya, that white stuff lifeguards put on thier nose. Unless you are running around all white, you should be fine.

So, using a SPF will keep you from becoming a burnt piece of bacon in thirty-six seconds. Build your tan slowly and each day. This also makes a tan last longer. Still use sunscreen between SPF15-30, and moisturize well to prevent serious sun damage in the next 10-15 years.

You HAVE to use sunscreen! If you lay out without it, you might get sunburnt, or even worse, cancer!!! And a lot of other stuff... Don't risk it! There are tanning lotions with some sunscreen in them, you can get them anywhere, just make sure it says sunscreen, not sunblock.

you wont get a dark tan by using those which is good then they are doing there job but sunscreen is good for getting a little color like others have said it takes a while. But that is better then having direct rays and causing skin damage.

There is no such thing as a safe tan, unless it comes from a bottle. If you use sunscreen, you will still get a tan, it will just take longer to build up.

Sunscreen/sunblock should still allow you to get tan, but tanning oil also works, and if you apply it often, you shouldn't get burned.

I can't be in the sun and have been using Jergens Natural Glow Daily Moisturizer - I know it's fake but it doesn't look it.
