Check the yahoo groups for soapmaking groups. I am a member to three of them, and they have recipes (not nec. for horses, tho) and lots of links. Has members from all over the world, very helpful bunch.

While at it, check out the horse greoups, too, see if they have any ideas.

You can get it in one gallon or smaller. A wide variety of stores carry it.

You can buy it at farnam.com. Otherwise just get some soylent green soap and make it up from there.
