When I start IE, it takes about 30mb, but if it's been open a long time, it gets to about 100mb, and that's just with one window open. Does this mean I have some spyware working behind the scenes?

Yes i agree with the spyware thing. Because any backdoor applications can access the volatile entrances of the the Internet Explorer and make things the worst! But i think there were some patches for that. Hope it works.

Run some initial procedures on the anti-virus and spyware and makesure you've got a dependable Firewall attached on to your entrance. This would prevents trogent horses and many other unwelcomed guests entering your system with sheer convenience. But its not 100 percent dependable.

Good Luck!

You need an anti-spayware program before your identity is stolen and fraud is committed against you.
Google "Online spyware check." Some site check for free. I am running Allume Clean-Sweep. Cost $30.
Works well.
