I've heard that suggested before , ( in jest ) . Now think about it for real .
Mexico has a lot of beautiful beaches and a lot of us go there to vacation every year . They also have oil ( more then enough to invade for ) and gold . They have many natural resources . Actually , Mexico is a wealthy country , the government hasn't and won't use their resource's for it's people . Mexico is rated 13th in wealth as a country . We could really exploit that to our advantage . You know , real estate , drilling , mining . Think of the jobs and taxes .

REALLY bad idea.
1) Mexico's economy isn't doing NEARLY as well as the U.S.
To show what would happen, you'll need a swimming pool.
First, get some swim wear on, get in, and have a friend time you to see how quickly you can swim to the other side.
Next, put on pants, a long-sleeve shirt, and put weights on your wrists and ankles. Try the same swimming test, and see what the quicker time is.
2) Mexico's national language is Spanish. While the U.S. doesn't have a "formal" national language, how often have you heard of a nation where 1/2 of the population can not speak the language of the other 1/2 of the population?
3) "increasing the american money intake.. also lowering families supported by our goverment.." Really? Have you taken a look at the standard-of-living in Mexico? Taking in Mexico to the U.S. will have the same effect on Welfare as throwing gasoline on a camp fire.
Yeah, overall - REALLY BAD IDEA!

WE didn't 'join' Mexico as North America, The United States, Mexico, and Canada make up North America as a continent. We didn't pull those land masses together and make them touch, that is just geography. The US had nothing to do with Mexico being part of North America, that is just its location. Nice try though.

Mexico is already our friend...we have things like NATO and stuff. We can't force any nation to join us. Nor do we necessarily want a nation to join us. Think of how much more would need to go into defense budgets to cover all that land. Our population would sky rocket. American would never declare Mexico as an enemy.
Mexico wants its independence just as much as we do, why should we take that away from them? What if the EU said we had to join them or they would consider us an enemy? What if they forced us all to speak French - EW. That wouldn't be to nice now would it? Step in their shoes for a minute and see how you would feel if you were a Mexican and the US was forcing your country to join them.

How about 'NO'. Mexico's a hole, they won't stand up and fix their own problems, and 'si, se pueda' deport as many people as it takes to re-inforce that idea. If you're a mexican, or a pro-mexican, then by all means MOVE to mexico. But, pick a country, because the vast majority of americans oppose your shotgun wedding idea, and WILL oppose it. Someday, when Mexico takes care of its' own citizens better, does more to promote their own economy, builds more schools, tries harder to be on a par with america, then, and then only can we really afford to be a little friendlier with em. Until they show some signs of real reform and progress, though, no mas, senor...

Because most of the US doesn't want Mexico as a state for a number of reasons.
1. very high gang violence especially around Tijuana
2. We would have to spend enormous amounts of money to build up the infrastructure in Mexico
3. There social services are deplorable, we would have to spend even more money to bring those up to par.
These are just a few of the reasons, besides if we let Mexico join the US then what's stopping other no-nothing POS nations from joining the US just to save their sorry rear-ends?

Because Congress would have to vote Mexico in as a state, and that would be political suicide for anyone claiming to conservative or an old dem.
We're two different cultures, and you don't make a country an American state if there's no taint of American culture in it. That's just another North and South civil war in progress.

In general, America does not want Mexico.
We already had a war with them establishing the current borders.
So anyone coming across the border should be shot as a spy.

There is such a thing as sovereignty. I don't think Mexico and its citizens would want to be just "annexed" or "occupied" by a foreign power. It would be just like when Iraq invaded Kuwait. You can't just go about colonizing anymore like the "good old days."
