Special rights? Giving gays the right to marry is a "special right?" Gays are forbidden to participate in marriage, so if anyone has a special right, its straights.
As things stand now, we can be forbidden to see our loved one in the hospital. We can lose our partners estate when our loved one dies, even if there is a will. We are denied the right to marry and adopt. I could go on all day.
And lets dispense with the notion that rights for racial minorities and rights for gays and lesbians are different. Blacks and other racial minorities have many more rights then gays. So if there is anything different between gay rights and racial rights, its that gays have it MUCH WORSE then anyone else when it comes to equality.

Black people want the same chances in life that white people have. Disabled people want a chance to live as normally as possible. Gay people want to get married just like straight people do.
You're absolutely right. There should only be one kind of rights. Equal rights.

That would be perfectly fine if all ppl recognized that those human rights applied to ALL humans.
The way it is now, ppl interprete the laws to only apply to what certain groups; therefore, our society has to develop new legislation specifically designed to protect the rights of those that don't fall in certain categories.
BTW, those are not 'special' rights. They are rights to give equality and fairness.
And you are exactly right... there should be only human rights. I just wish certain groups would let those human rights apply to ALL people.
BTW, there should immediately be a ban on marriage all together because it gives SPECIAL RIGHTS to heteorsexuals.

You are correct..Can you imagine, a White Caucus? Can you imagine, colleges, just for whites, the list goes on and on. I don't know why any group of people should have special rights.. If you are white in the US, there isn't any white groups you can join. Ohhhh yeah, how about a white TV station? You have black entertainment stations..What a disgrace it is to have all these special rights!!

My, this is fun. First, what special rights are you talking about? The right of police to profile? or is the right of courts to unevenly dispense prison terms to the poor? or maybe its that gosh darn right that tries to let those darn minorities into college?
I don't know about you, but the only "special right" I find morally repugnant is the right of corporations to be treated as if they are individuals and protected by the Constitution yet are in no way responsible for their actions (i.e. people do not suffer penalties.)

Because liberals don't believe in the individual can think or act on their own. Libs believe that only government has bestow rights on groups, everything must be mandated based on groupthink and group-political numbers.

Because certain people believe that they should be treated better than others because they are a certain gender ot race. The sad truth is that these people need special rights because they are unable to compete on their own.

No one should have rights, everyone abuses them. Oh yeah, but please never refer to gay rights and black rights as if they were even close in comparison because they're not.

Scorpion is right on! Democrats love to have minorities assume they don't have what it takes on their own to succeed.
