I think they're going to become old, narrow-minded, ignored, selfish, greedy, adults. Just like we did.

I am a 22-year-old soldier in the Army, been in since I was 18 years old. Soon I will leave the military after 4 years around the world and start college this fall. I happen to be from a college town, and the students comprise much of the local population. They come from many different backgrounds and places. Our local economy depends on them as they work at most of the businesses and spend what money they do have locally. Words that come to mind...mostly young, broke, smart, hard-partying, hard working people. I don't know how you define "adult" but this message is from someone who has done quite a lot for his age.

I think the kids today are in general slightly better than the ones 30 or 40 years ago when I was a student. I think in general morals have improved. There is less racism, and less crime. They seem to be more dedicated to their studies. The only trend which I see as negative is perhaps a greater degree of apathy towards the political system, but I think that may be more due to what was going on 40 years ago, than a general trend.

That said, the problems the kids today will need to face will be much more difficult than the ones my generation had to deal with.

Well, the students are a lot more open about their sexuality than they were even ten years ago. Course, they're also a little less inclined to politics. They do party hard like all college students of old, though the drugs of choice are different. I can't say they're smarter or better. All in all, I can imagine worse times to be a college student.

the age of the student you appear to be asking about moving through the education transition that puts alot of them off balance. They have just spent their whole school life being treated like children and now are expected to act like adults.
For some there is the period where they are not too sure what they are, for others the "less strict" teaching methods lead to classroom frolicks abuse of the system. Most settle down, my view of students; discoverers of life, all discoverers make bad calls, some make brilliant leaps of faith, all should be given space to just discover...........

People who are living in a idealistic world...going to class, setting their own schedule and typically off of someone else's money. They're old enough to be responsible for school work, yet young enough to know when it's time to party and have fun.

I'd go back in a heartbeat.

Silly, shallow, and in for a big surprise. Life's a lot different when you don't get summer vacation anymore...
