There are so many things that you can do, but you have to believe in yourself and search within yourself to find the answers. If you believe those that tell you that you are unemployable, then you will find yourself unemployable. I know many chronic Diabetics and with serious illnesses who do great things with their lives. Invest in yourself by believing in yourself. Don't put limits on yourself. Write down all the things that you can do, and that you have done in the past, and you will find that you are indeed a great asset to the world! Read the book "Law of Attraction" by Michael Losier - it's a great read!!! Good luck and best wishes.

You're a Sociologist and you're asking us? You're very brave. You are at the crossroads in your life which is all about reflection. (what have I done?, was I successful?, what does the future hold? etc.). You already know this, I'm sure. Sociology 101. You're over educated & have diabetes (this is not a death sentence). Lose weight if you're over wt, exercise and keep your diabetes under control. Now let's work on depression. Of course you're feeling depressed, who wouldn't? Go to the Dr and get a depression screen and get on something! And who told you you were unemployable anyway? Can you teach sociology? Consider writing a book. Nonfiction. Write what you know or get a ghost writer to help. YOU HAVE OPTIONS! YOU HAVE EDUCATION. Use creative thinking to find out what you can do, not what you can't do! Good luck!

Set yourself some little goals and challenges. ?Sign up for a ten K in the autumn, promising to raise money for charity, that helps to motivate! Then get yourself a good run/ walk training plan and build up from a couple of miles a week to 10 miles or so. You will get such a buzz as your fitness improves . You will love the feeling of being part of a 10k race and meet lots of people. All you need is a decent pair of running shoes. You should get in a factory outlet for £40 but that would do you until at least then. Go on. You know you want to!

So, what have you done before - have you been a professional student 'til age 59? You must have studied a lot and learned very little.

I don't know what "finacially goosed" means - is that British?- I guess that means you don't have enough money? How have you supported yourself these last 40 years? Add info, please.

Offhand, I'd say, at age 60, from here on out you need to concentrate on controlling your diabetes, and ponder why you wasted your life.

Or, take up the banjo.

It must feel very unfair that after all your hard work, you are not being appreciated and given help to do your Masters degree. I sympathise. I think that most cultures in the world undervalue people as they grow older.

Try to turn this around, from a situation where you feel you have lost into a WIN situation. You can do this by thinking positive. I know this isn't easy.

Start by saying to yourself: OK, so it looks as if I won't be able to do my Masters. But I am very proud of my first degree and at least I achieved that.

Voluntary work can be satisfying and might be a way into a permanant job. Or you could think about a skill you could use to work from home. How about private tuition?

It s up to you. Your life is precious and I urge you to live it to the full.

Hope this is of help.

If your unemployable you should have plenty of free time that you could utilise on ebay! Its a very easy site to use where you can easily find out what items sell very well, from there you can obtain these items from wholesalers and sell them on ebay from the comfort of your own home, part-time. You'd be your own boss and earn just enought money to enjoy your life. Lots of people on ebay make a part-time living this way-its just that they don't or can't give up their real jobs-you won't have that problem. Its just a thought. If that doesn't appeal, get some magazines/books on setting up your own small business-at 60 you don't want to be employed and making someone else rich-plus self-employment brings freedom!

Allah is He Who created you in (a state of) weakness, then gave you strength after weakness, then after strength gave (you) weakness and grey hair. He creates what He wills. And it is He Who is the AllKnowing, the AllPowerful (i.e. Able to do all things).

Wheresoever you may be, death will overtake you even if you are in fortresses built up strong and high!" And if some good reaches them, they say, "This is from Allah," but if some evil befalls them, they say, "This is from you (O Muhammad SAW)." Say: "All things are from Allah," so what is wrong with these people that they fail to understand any word?

In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful.
All the praises and thanks be to Allah, the Lord of the Alameen (mankind, jinns and all that exists).
The Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful.
The Only Owner (and the Only Ruling Judge) of the Day of Recompense (i.e. the Day of Resurrection)
You (Alone) we worship, and You (Alone) we ask for help (for each and everything).
Guide us to the Straight Way
The Way of those on whom You have bestowed Your Grace , not (the way) of those who earned Your Anger (such as the Jews), nor of those who went astray (such as the Christians).

Happy Birthday for tomorrow it's also my birthday I will be 61,my advice to you is to enjoy your retirement if you need to do something meaningful perhaps do some voluntary work for a charity, write your memoirs, try your hand at DIY or get a part time job involving people even at Wal-mart or Home Depot or similar.
Don't think you are on the scrapheap of life look at it as a new begining of your life as a senior.

First, if you're not already, become a Christian, if that sounds cool to you. It's nice to have God on your side...it makes everything seem a lot better than they may seem.

But you're turning 60! Live it up! You should start volunteering, do something like peace corps....anything! Just make sure you don't slow down and loose faith in yourself. Keep your head up. I'll be praying 4 ya!
