There is a big temp difference between the rim and the bottom because of the big change in elevation and you will need to be prepared for both. Overall, October is one of the best times to backpack to the bottom - neither too cold at the top nor too hot at the bottom.
At the bottom, it will be warm during the day (70s-80s), but cool at night (50s). Since you are down in a narrow gorge, it gets less sunlight and takes a while to warm up in the morning. You will probably want more than a sheet - either a heavy fleece liner bag and with long-underwear or a light sleeping bag (I have taken a light sleeping bag when I have gone during that time of year - better a little too warm than a little too cold). One good idea if you are wanting to pack on the light side, is to get a cheap $2 'solar blanket' from an outdoor store (they look like a tin-foil tarp). These are small and light (the size of deck of cards). If you wrap it around you inside your sleeping bag or liner, you can get an extra 5-10 degrees warmth.
I would also take a light jacket in case of wind or rain near the top. Those little backpacker rain jackets that weigh less than a pound and pack up to the size of a coffee can are ideal.
For other general suggestions about backpacking down to Bright Angel campground near the river see my answer to your other question about how to carry your tent.

That relies upon on whether you're on the canyon rim or on the backside. there is almost a mile distinction in elevation. on the south rim the conventional extreme is interior the better 50sF and the conventional low is interior the mid 20s. See the hyperlink decrease than for a TON of documents from final 12 months approximately that region. i do no longer think of they have good climate documents like that for the backside of the canyon, even even though it is going to likely be exceptionally warmer on the backside than on the rim.

Bring a tent and a sleeping bag. It's way to cool for just a sheet.

I was there in May. It was cool in the evenings, so I imagine it's going to be cool in October. I would say you'll need a blanket and sleeping bag. Enjoy....

The weather on the rim and at the bottom are quite different. October will be cool at the rim and warm at the bottom. Not much chance of rain.
