The boss could handle it better, but the truth is this: if the company bought the computer, it is their right to monitor how it's used. Larger offices don't trouble with sneaking in to read e-mails - they see them at the server level.

If the boss is reading others' e-mails to catch up on office issues, then you might not have a very good boss to begin with.

If you know it's happening, no one is being sneay. In fact, as an employer I would post a notice that this is a possibility. So do the job you are being paid for in the office and save the other stuff for when you're off the clock. You might be surprised at how much better things go for you.

it's not being sneaky - the boss has a right to read any and every email that goes through their office.

That is not sneaky...it's probably in your employee handbook that they reserve the right to do this. Suggestion: don't email anything from work that you don't want others to read. Clear your history and cookies from your computer if you've been to websites that you shouldn't have and start fresh by staying professional at work.

Hi. Like it or not, this is typical anymore because of abuses by employees with office computers. Literally millions of $ are lost by companies each year because of producitivity affected by recreational internet use.
I say, let your life be an open book, so if the boss is nosy, you've got nothing to hide. =) Buttercup

It is NOT proper protocol to be sending/receiving (routine) e-mails on company time/costs.
It sounds to me like the "pot calling the kettle black", except the boss' reasons may be considered legitimite. Are yours?
