Urinary Tract Infections
Ways to Prevent a Urinary Tract Infection:
Good personal hygiene is important. Blot or wipe gently from front to back after urinating or having a bowel movement. This will avoid spreading bacteria from your rectum to your vagina or urethra.
Try not to use colored toilet paper, bubble bath, perfumed soaps, douches, feminine hygiene deodorants, and deodorant tampons and napkins.
Wear cotton underwear. Avoid wearing tight clothing, such as bodysuits, tight pants and nylon panty hose without cotton liners.
Avoid using strong soaps and bleaches when washing underclothes.
Avoid prolonged activities that can aggravate bladder infections, such as bicycling, horseback riding, motorcycling and traveling.
Drink six to eight glasses of water or fluids a day. Drinking cranberry juice may be helpful, but check with your doctor first. It should not be used with some medications.
Urinate when you feel the urge - do not hold urine for long periods of time.
Urinate before and after having intercourse.
During your period, if you wear pads, change them at least twice a day.
If You have a Urinary Tract Infection:
Maintain a high fluid intake to be sure you have a good urine output-at least one to two quarts of fluid in 24 hours. Drinking cranberry juice may be helpful, but check with your doctor first. It should not be used with some medications.
Empty your bladder as soon as you feel the urge to urinate, even if it does not feel full.
Avoid foods that may irritate your bladder, such as spicy foods, alcohol, or beverages containing caffeine.
Take medications prescribed by your doctor exactly as instructed, and be sure to take all of the medication prescribed.
If signs and symptoms of your infection do not subside after two or three days, call your doctor or clinic.
Call Your Doctor or Clinic If:
You have a change in urinating, such as frequency, urgency, pain or burning.
You have bloody, cloudy, or foul-smelling urine.
You have a constant, nagging urge to urinate.
You have chills or fever over 100o.
You have lower abdominal pain or discomfort.
You have lower back pain or discomfort.

depending on the severity of the infection and how often it happens.
If it is simple infectio with a burning sensation, drinking lots of fluids, and cranberry juice are a first step.
next step is going to the family doctor, and describing the symptoms, most probably you will get a prescription for a basic Antibiotic (bactrim or penicillin based anti biotic), symptoms should resolve in a few days.
things to watch out for that are signs that the infection is worsening or severe are: high fever, lower back pain, blood in urine, nausea and vomiting, and frequent recurring infections

Well first off you need to go to the doctor to make sure its a UTI. It could be an STD. The doctor will get you to pee in a cup and check your urine for blood. Then depending on how much blood is in your urine, they'll prescribe a certain antibiotic. Don't just assume cranberry juice will cure a UTI. If left untreated it can damage your bladder lining.

Drink cranberry juice (not cranberry FLAVORED, but juice made from real cranberries) and take a cranberry supplement available in the vitamin section of any drug store.
but you will really need an antibiotic to get it out of your system, so go see a doc ASAP. they can be very painful and the antibiotics start working within the hour.
