Throughout history, we've made bombs and fought wars, upon wars, with millions dying. Terrorism has always been a problem. The IRA and Al-Qeada are all the same

Because humans don't look at it as destroying ourselves - we look at it as destroying 'the other'. Too many humans are so blinded by hate that they can't see how that will turn back onto them.

while there are many third world countries that have not evolved to our state of civilization and enlightenment, we continue to attempt to spread the warmth of the light of education and civilization to the ignorant savages in the world, the al-quaida groups and so on are only in place to embrace and fight to remain in their ignorance.... when the common man and woman of these countries finally understand that there is a better way and a more peaceful and secure way to ive than their greedy and cruel dictators allow them to have, they want what we have to offer. but change is never easy.

ACK!!! Our degree of enlightenment and civilization? LOL We wish. Did you know the infant mortality rates in this country aren't in the top 5? Did you know that something like 15% of the population live in poverity (didn't look up that number...it might be worse). Finally, do you know who gave dictators like Hussein and Castro thier positions? The USA. Yeah, before we start spreading our "civilization and enlightenment" around the world, we better get our own house in order.
As for the question, I believe that human beings are motivated by what makes an individual feel good. Unfortunately, motivations can vary. There are very few ppl (a few bad apples) that are trying to destroy thier fellow man. But there a plenty of ppl who try to satiate their own desires, and could care less about anyone else. Therefore, it is selfishness without concern for repurcutions, rather than a deliberate attempt of people to destroy each other.

This is a good question. People just can't get along is what it comes down to. We all have different beliefs and ideas and many groups like the IRA and al Queda base their wars on their religion and ideas. If we all could get along their would be no war.

Humans are not naturally self destructive, humans are just not competent enough to understand what they are doing if you get them into large groups. Honestly I have noticed people don't do such retarded things when they are alone, but when you put them together everyone decides to do what they think everyone else is thinking and as a general rule this is a bad idea. Basically what I am trying to get at is that we are a world of followers with no real leaders.

It is our nature to exponentially expand in numbers. At the same time, a certain percentage of the male population only , is removed in war. In fact, as a percentage of the overall population, this number is almost insignifant now. So, while the media focuses attenion on war, we are living in the most peaceful period ever, if you calculate the percentage of humans affected by war.

So what is the real problem--- gridlock!

I don't think it is about 'destroying' I think it is about 'changing' which it is the nature of earth :-), It could be that 1,000,000 yrs ago...or 2,000,000 yrs ago, we have human and technologies like we have now....and when it comes to the certain time (the limit that earth can handle then everything get wipe off!)....then it start again from the begining ;-).....and I think may be now other planet is changing and may become new earth to replace this old one ;-)....do you know how big earth is when compare with others in the whole galaxy....(just one galaxy....how many galaxy .....so our earth is just smaller than dust ..)

We're naturally jealous creatures. Remember we're part of Darwin's Law of Natural Selection. We're all competing for stuff, land, food, supplies, ports, all that. And the only difference between ours and animals territory battles is we have opposable thumbs and can build better stuff. So getting something is more of the aim, and the effects on the environment and ourselves is more of an unpleasant afterthought.

Human and nature are two different elements of Gaia and it is only humanity that destroys itself, nature sustains us. That is why nature kicks back every time we hurt it and nature would be very happy if we all destroyed one another, provided that we could do this without damaging the planet. But I think Nature is losing the battle?

Know what this is a question I have pondered a lot about and I think that the only explanation could be that each human is unique and every one thinks differently and people believe that what they think has to be right and as it happens maybe it's in our genes or what some of us are ready even to kill for what they believe is right

Darwinism is more likely the answer. Quite easy. Survival of the fittest. Why do Red Ants war with black ants, male lions fight for dominance, white cells fighting the cancer. It is not just human nature it is all of nature.

have you ever thought about the judeo/christian concept of original sin?
even though it's a theological concept in it's base, it goes a long way to explain the reasoning behind mankind's inborn desires to self destruct and to inflict damage on his fellow man.

stating we are born with a sinful nature and that is one of the battles we are to fight our entire lives in order to remain redeemable in the eyes of the devine. we are to resist these temptations and strive to understand that these urges are placed in us to be overcome. that through resistance we come closer to the devine and hence enlightened. that war and vengeance (as exibited by the IRA and al-queada) are human concepts born of these inborn urges of pain and destruction. it goes on and on to encompass the seven deadly sins and the seven cardinal virtues. dante's inferno goes well in depth in explaining them all.

but again, it's a theological answer to a human set of dilemmas. faith whether founded or not can go miles in inspiration of self improvement and governing. faith can be a good thing to have as long as it's held true and used wisely.

if survival of the fittest is the answer, then why does war kill of the fittest while the weaker and sickly stay behind and live to propegate? why are we a society that waits for the healthy to die we then harvest their body parts so that the sickly may survive?
we do not completely fit in to the survival of the fittest category anymore. while there are many third world countries that have not evolved to our state of civilization and enlightenment, we continue to attempt to spread the warmth of the light of education and civilization to the ignorant savages in the world, the al-quaida groups and so on are only in place to embrace and fight to remain in their ignorance.... when the common man and woman of these countries finally understand that there is a better way and a more peaceful and secure way to ive than their greedy and cruel dictators allow them to have, they want what we have to offer. but change is never easy.
