I know you like to post goofy answers like me but I would like to take this question seriously for a moment. I think prostution should absolutely be legalized. It would render it safer for everyone. The problem with conservative people is that they think if they acknowledge the "seedy" things people do by legalizing it, they are thereby supporting the act. I don't support prostution at all, but I'm not a moron and I know it will happen whether I want it to or not. If it's legalized, it's better regulated. It helps protect the safety and welfare of the prostitutes and helps prevent the spread of STDs. It's just plain old common sense. People need to keep their emotions out of making legal decisions.

I can understand why women might become prositutes when they are desperate for money, but I think even if you legalize prostitution it would not be any better for them.

The government would have to put in some kind of enforcement to make sure that prostiutes were not abused, had good medical care, and had some way of living if they could no longer do that job. The United States doesn't even enforce the labor laws they do pass well enough to think that they should add another job title into the mix.

In countries where prostitution is legalized the country tends to be less populated than in the United States. Also, if prostituiton became legalized which government branch would enforce the laws? Would the laws be state or federal laws?

How would the government recruit people to check each facility. Can the government find every single place where prostitution takes place? We can't even get an accurate census count! People do hide.

What would be the job requirements for a legal prostitute? Would this only be females or would gigilos also have to be legalized? What about homosexual and transexual prostitutes?
Would there be age limits? How would the government prevent corruption in the regulators? What's to stop a facility from paying a bribe?

What about street walkers, runaways, and truely desperate people? What's to stop them from taking advantage of the situation?

What we need is more social workers, programs that reach out and help these people. They should not have to be prostituting their lives away.

We need more legal jobs, instead of prostitution for these people.

I don't like what can happen to these people.

Legalization is not the answer.

Thank you for an interesting topic to discuss.
(Spell check is not working so please excuse my misspellings and typos.)

Well let's think about this. Germany has legalized prostitution. Their unemployment rate is extremely high so many people are looking for government assistance. The government makes demands that the people take jobs that are available. Since the prostitution industry is always hiring the government was trying to force women into prostitution to get off of the government rolls. What's to stop our government from doing the same thing if it were legalized here?

Yes, but first, we ought to make sure that all of the prostitutes are incapable of having children, because if it were legalized in all 50 states, my friend, we all would be doomed to an eternity of sick inbred twits.

If you want less sex crimes and less stds in all 50 states... then yes, it should be. Pimping should be illegal but prostitution and management contracts (where the sex worker has the power and the right to make demands like housekeeping and security) should be legal.

Yes. I used to live in Nevada & it's a great way to generate money for the state. The girls have to get tested once a week & show papers, so at least they're a little bit safer than some random hooker.

not, definitely not all
I'm willing to keep an open mind concerning which states are the ones where it should indeed be legalized. Maybe it's just the ones that have names beginning with an "M" or maybe it's just the ones with mountain peaks that reach over 12,345 feet above sea level. The whole thing is very confusing to me.

Yes, and it should also be checked more if things happen voluntary or forced.
I don't see why it is wrong for a person to have sex for money. It is there own choice, like everybody chooses to do something for money. It is not up to others to say what you can and can't do with your own body.
It is wrong when people are forced to do it. Very wrong. The focus should be on how to stop that.

Why would you want it to be? It brings more unwanted babies, more std's. Prostitution is horrible. Its a women who is selling herself and her dignity to satisfiy the sextual need of dirtty men for money. No I dont think it should be legalized. I think it should be band all over the world.

Yes, it should. But instead of just legalizing it, set up and independent (i.e. not government) regulation and liscensing agency, like lawyers (Bar Association) and doctors. Provide for mandatory drug and disease testing, require contraceptive use, and keep everything above board. Tax the heck out of it.
