Well, it will keep migrating around the world for a century or so. Where ever people are poor, corporations will take advantage of their low expectations of pay.

Outsourcing is a succesful and working model for all corporations and succesful businesses. In fact, even the Government organizations are now outsourcing their work. By definition, outsourcing is the procuring of services or products, such as the parts used in manufacturing a motor vehicle, from an outside supplier or manufacturer in order to cut costs.
The latest phenomenon in Outsourcing is Offshore/Nearshore outsourcing which is outsourcing to a low cost place. This again is here to stay as it helps organizations stay competitive and stay focused on their core areas.
The future of outsourcing is very bright with more and more organizations which were not open to this concept, opening up more and the focus will move from low cost to value.

Outsourcing has ossurred for thousands of years. And it will always occur.
I can't help but to laugh at the responses about corporate greed, workers, etc. That is all PC bs. Its a cycle. When one areas supply fits anothers demand - whether software, fossil fuels, craftsmanship, etc - its a global ebb and flow. Heres a prime example: Oil. Oil was first discovered and refined in Pennsylvania. Expensive, with little demand. AS the combustion engine grew, cars were created, machinery, trains, HVAC units, etc - the supply was greater in other parts of the world. SO, a product discovered and created here (gasoline, kerosine, etc) is now a key import. ANd if ethanol took off globally - areas that can grow corn or other agricultural supplies will become the new "energy titans"
Has always happened, always will.

The world market will still play an enormous role for the next 20 years. Look for China to follow the same route as Japan only 4x as fast. India is almost saturated beyond their infrastructure. Look for the best markets in Bangladesh, Vietnam, and other Asian mainstreams. Potentially some African markets may evolve.
After that, watch for product to start coming back to US markets as the wage difference makes a correction. I only hope that there is still some technical skills left in the US by then.

Outsourcing only exists due to lack of employee loyalty. Eventually the economy will get so bad nobody will want to quit their job. The job compeition will get so stiff that there will be people who will create tasks within the company to show managment that they are worth keeping. Eventually there will no longer be a need for outsourcing.

Americans will be taking hamburger orders from a strong middle class Chinese population in Shanghai via sattelite and transmitting the orders back to the McDonalds kitchens there, because no one in China will be willing to do that kinda work for that kinda pay.
