This is the only question I have. I understand there is at least one place in Buffalo where I can go to exchange currency other than Canadian for US currency and I would like the location as I would be using public transportation.

you could try your local bank. But for only $50, I'd suggest trying craig's list, or contacting the australian student association at SUNY-Buffalo. You might get a better deal there.
You can check the value of your AUS$ on http://finance.yahoo.com/currency to confirm you're getting a decent exchange rate.

Go to a bank. If they won't exchange it, they will tell you where to go
