I have a 2000 Honda Civic and the air conditioning is being wierd. When I turn it on, my car slows down and speeds up...like sputtering. Any idea what might cause that and how to fix it?

your air conditioning is kicking on and off. when the air kicks on the engine speeds up and but when it air cuts off the engine idles back down. this could be as simple as your air conditioning is low on freon or maybe the high pressure switch has gone bad. either way you need take it too have check if you want your air conditioning but until then leave the air off.

Your car is equipped with electronic sensors that tell the computer what to do & when to do it. When the engine is under a load like AC the engine should speed up a little to keep from stauling. However, if the engine races & the slows down, races again, then slows down again, and again & so on, you probably have a bad sensor. In your case, it sounds like an idler module. These are relatively cheap & easy to replace.

That is a normal reaction as the engine speeds up when your AC kicks in and when your car inside reaches a certain temp point it shuts down and thus the engine runs slower. You may want to have a mechanic check it out to see if it's properly adjusted.

the wire for the AC might be broken and is coming in contact with that of the battery which might also be broken
